Arcade Genres Explained: Pushers, Fish Tables, Match-3 and More

The arcade floor looks like a hundred different games, but by core mechanic there are really only a handful of families. Here is the map.

Pushers

Match & clear

Core mechanic: matching three or more of a kind. Flagships: Gem Blast, Fortune Tiles. Traits: zero learning curve, chains add depth.

Fish tables / shooters

Core mechanic: aim and fire. Flagship: Golden Toad Fishing. Traits: the highest share of active skill, with real strategy in target choice.

Reel games

Core mechanic: symbol combinations. Flagships: Water Margin, God of Fortune. Traits: clear rules, strong theming.

Themed stage games

Core mechanic: level progression plus spectacle. Flagships: Crazy Devil City, Halloween Showdown, Zeus, The Great Magician, Treasure Chain. Traits: heavy atmosphere, fast pace.
